What Are Acrylic Signs?

Acrylic signs are made from a colorless, transparent, durable cast polymer and is a perfect substitute for traditional glass. Because of their depth, clarity, and resilience, they are often used as lobby, directional, and architectural signage.

Acrylic signs are made with UV ink printed directly onto the material. However, they can also be used as rigid substrates for attaching vinyl lettering or print films like opaque and clear window decals.

Acrylic signs are an excellent choice if you want to add a simple yet sophisticated look to any office, business, or professional setting. They are 100% customizable and one of the best ways to showcase your logo or brand.

Thickness of Our Acrylic Signs

The default thickness for our acrylic signs is 1/8". This is sufficient for almost all uses of acrylic signs.

We also offer 1/4" thick acrylic if you need signs that require added durability and resilience for a minimal added cost. This thicker option provides great light refraction which means it has better sheen and depth.

Both thickness options have some bendability to them. When choosing between thicknesses, we recommend that you select centered top and bottom drilled holes in addition to the four corners for added support. This goes for all signs bigger than 60".

Drilled Holes & Standoffs

Drilled Holes

The most common way to display your custom acrylic sign is to mount it on a rigid surface like a concrete wall. For easy installation, we offer optional drilled holes for your sign.

We can drill holes into your acrylic sign in the following configurations:

  • Each of the four corners
  • Top and bottom center
  • Top corners only
  • Corners and top and bottom center
  • Custom hole placement

The perfect pairing with drilled holes is our gorgeous brushed anodized aluminum standoffs. They are measured 0.5" in diameter and 0.75" in length. You can purchase them as an additional item, and we will provide installation notes with your order.

Taking Care of Your Acrylic Sign

Acrylic can easily chip or shatter when mishandled. To prevent damaging your acrylic sign, we recommend that you install it properly and do regular maintenance. You may clean your acrylic sign using a damp non-abrasive cloth to wipe the surface. Keep it away from any sharp objects that may scratch the printed surface or acrylic. When storing your acrylic sign, cover it with soft fabric or packaging wrap to protect it from scratches. Do not place any objects on or against your acrylic sign during storage. Finally, install your sign in locations that aren't exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.

Removing the Protective Film

Removing the Protective Film

The surface of acrylic signs may be easily scratched. To protect your acrylic signs during shipment, we add a protective blue film to the acrylic surface. This film is removable and isn't a permanent part of your acrylic sign.

The process to remove the blue film takes only a minute or two. Begin at one of the corners of the sign and start pulling the film from the surface of the acrylic. Once the protective film is removed your sign is ready for installation.

Acrylic vs. Glass

While acrylic has similar properties to glass, they are completely different materials. Acrylic maintains the clarity of glass but still can shatter or scratch due to intentional or unintentional efforts to do so. Acrylic is often called a "glass substitute" and this is due to its beautiful printed appearance and not fundamentally different durability compared to traditional glass. When handled carefully, your acrylic signs will provide a stunning yet professional look on a clear, rigid material.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best material to use for a sign that will not fade in the sun?
Outdoor signs are often exposed to sunlight, and you’ll need materials that have high UV resistance. Aluminum signs are usually the first choice for outdoor signs since they do not fade even when exposed to direct sunlight, and they resist rust and corrosion. Acrylic plexiglass can also resist UV rays and fading, while also offering opaque and transparent designs.

“I didn't think that you could successfully design your own sign without having to see someone over the counter or even over the phone. I did call first and spoke to someone who was very information and reassuring, so after we hung up, I tried the website. The tools available are excellent and the explanations for the options were clear and easy to understand. Delivery was quick (for custom work that is) and the packaging was amazingly good. All in all, a great experience.”

Q:
do you sell white acrylic signs?
Asked 3 days ago by Robert B.
A:

Acrylic signs are made of a colorless, transparent, and durable cast polymer that is an excellent substitute for traditional glass. If you prefer a white material, we also provide durable plastic signs printed with UV ink on either 3 mm or 6 mm PVC plastic (Sintra). These lightweight, weatherproof, and long-lasting signs are ideal for use both indoors and outdoors.

You may check this link to see if this will fit your needs: https://www.signs.com/plastic-signs/

Kindly tell us more about the project so we can check for more options.

Please provide us with the full specifications of your potential order so we can get you a quote. You can submit a custom quote request here:

Q:
Do you offer installation/hanging services?
Asked 7 days ago by Tracy L.
A:

We do not offer installation services. But we send you guides on how to install them on some of our products we print.

Q:
Hi, Is there anyone available for a quick call to discuss logo signs. Thanks, Sofia
Asked 10 days ago by Sofia
A:

You may give us a call at 1-888-222-4929 for better assistance. Although, to give you an idea, here are our file requirements: The file size should match the ordered size plus 1/8" bleed on each side. For the resolution, it should be at least 150 DPI. For color accuracy, we need the artwork to be in CMYK colors for printing standards. Lastly, please do not place any critical images or text beyond the safety zone, which should be at least 1/8″ within the final trim size.

Q:
Hi, can I talk to someone to explain the color & logo of my sign? Thanks
Asked 11 days ago by Sofia
A:

The artwork that you will submit should be in CMYK color mode to avoid drastic color changes when we process your file. Please don't hesitate to contact us via phone at 1-888-222-4929 for further assistance. We can send you a digital proof for you to see how it's going to look before we send it to press.

Q:
How do we select font? And font size? Do we see a proof before the actual plaque is made?
Asked 27 days ago by Maura R.
A:

All designs are uploaded on the design tool online. The font and size of the font are selected on the design tool option if you are creating it using the design tool. But if you are submitting a print-ready file the font style and size need to be set up the way you want us to print our design.

Q:
Can you contour cut the acrylic sign for us? we usually see an option for drilled holes or contour cuts but not both?
Asked 2 months ago by UPS S.
A:

You can definitely choose both the contour cut and hole drilling. Kindly select custom shape, then choose the hole drilling size to see the option for the hole drilling location.

Q:
If you print a photo on this, does it print vibrantly and clearly?
Asked 2 months ago by Erika
A:

We print your design in full color with vibrant UV ink that stays bright for years! We recommend second surface printing for most custom acrylic signs. Second surface printing creates a depth and sheen (glossy appearance). Also, it is less likely to be scratched or damaged once installed.

Q:
how do I order the thicker sign? I dont see the option
Asked 2 months ago by Cathleen M.
A:

We have 1/8 and 1/4 thickness options for acrylic signs only. I have attached a link for your reference.

Q:
Can I not get anything printed on the sign and just use it as a dry-erase board?
Asked 2 months ago by Lexie
A:

Unfortunately, we do not send out blank signs. At least have something printed on the acrylic signs you are interested in ordering.

Q:
We have glass white boards and are wanting to have acrylic signs put on them. is there something we can do to make that work?
Asked 2 months ago by Cortney
A:

The most common way to display your custom acrylic sign is to mount it on rigid surfaces such as wood, metal, concrete, or drywall. For easy installation, we offer optional drilled holes for your sign. You may place the acrylic sign in front of the whiteboard so long as you will still mount it directly on a wall. Please provide us with the full specification of the order, and we would be happy to check for options available to meet your printing needs!
