Q:
What's the difference between bifold and trifold?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Simply put, bifold brochures are folded in half and tri-fold brochures are folded in thirds. Bifolds have the fold on the left side and open similar to a book or magazine. Trifolds have two folds that create three sections. Each fold folds over the middle of the brochure with the left fold being on top of the right fold.
Q:
What's a Z-fold?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

A z-fold is a different variation of the trifold. Like the trifold, a z-fold is when a paper is folded in thirds. Z-folds are folded in the shape of a "Z", hence the name. If you visualize the letter "Z", the front of the brochure would be the bottom of the letter, the middle of the brochure would be the slanted part of the "Z" between the top and bottom, and the back of the brochure would be the top of the "Z".

Q:
What's the most common size for brochures?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

This largely depends on the type of brochure and type of fold. In general, the most common brochure size is 8.5" x 11". This size is especially common for trifolds and z-folds. 11" x 17" is more common for bifold brochures.

Q:
What is the size of each section when bi-folded, tri-folded, and z-folded?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Because trifolds and z-folds are both folded in thirds, they have the same area for content sections. With a trifold/z-fold on 8.5" x 11", each section or fold would be approximately 8.5" x 3.67". With a bifold at that same size, each section or fold would be approximately 8.5" x 5.5". Each section of a trifold/z-fold on 11" x 17" paper would be 11" x 5.67". Each section of a bifold on 11" x 17" would be 11" x 8.5".

Q:
What are brochures used for?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Brochures can be used for various businesses or services. They are great for advertising key features, pricing, and contact information among other things. They can be used to advertise both small and large amounts of text and/or pictures. Brochures are most commonly used by travel agencies, real-estate agents, and spas. They are also used for weddings, business events, colleges, hospitals, and churches.
Q:
What is gloss aqueous coating? What is matte coating?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Gloss aqueous coating is a water-based coatings that, similar to other types of coatings, is used to protect the printed product. Because of the water base, gloss aqueous is also more environment friendly than other coatings. The coating helps prevent scratches, fingerprints, and dust. Aqueous coatings have a gloss finish and matte coatings have a matte finish.
Q:
What is the turnaround on brochures?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Because of the printing method and large quantities, current turnaround on brochures is 3 business days.
Q:
What's the difference between bifold/bi-fold and trifold/tri-fold?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Nothing. People use both terms with the hyphen (bi-fold and tri-fold) to describe the same thing without the hyphen (bifold and trifold). Some people prefer the bi-fold and tri-fold over bifold and trifold and vice versa. They mean the same thing. Some people will even omit the hyphen and call them bi fold or tri fold brochures. However, the most common are the non-hyphenated versions: bifold and trifold.
