What Are Brushed Aluminum Signs?

Brushed aluminum signs, the ultimate in durability and aesthetics, are made by printing any image, graphic, or design directly onto a 3mm brushed aluminum e-panel material. This material has a brushed face and is composed of two sheets of aluminum with a reinforced polyethylene core. This makeup allows for maximum durability while providing the appearance of stainless steel at a fraction of the price.

Designed for both internal and external use, brushed aluminum signs are commonly used to display business names, logos, suite numbers, titles, and general information. They are great for lobby and receptionist areas, stores, waiting rooms, internal offices, hallways, bathrooms, and more. Brushed aluminum signs are also popular as restroom, exit, handicap, and maximum occupancy signs. Templates for these types of signs and more are available in the popular templates section below.

  3. Explore the rest of the design tool’s customization features – get creative!
  4. Click “View Proof” for a real-time preview. There’s also Ruler, Bleed, and Grid lines to help you place the design elements accurately. You can toggle these on and off.
  5. Click “Save & Continue” once you’re done. You can also click “Save” if you want to finish your draft at a later time.

Installation
The most common method of mounting our brushed aluminum signs is to a rigid surface using standoffs. After measuring and marking the location where the sign will be hung you can use the standoffs package (must be ordered as an option) to mount your metal sign. Note, for some rigid surfaces a pilot hole may be needed before continuing installation of your sign. Simply put your anchor inside of the standoff tube and then drill the screw and tube into the wall through the drilled holes on the sign itself. The final step is to screw on the caps of the standoffs by hand. To install your sign this way you’ll need a measuring tape, a level, and drill. We also recommend selecting the “Drilled Holes” option unless you plan to drill your own holes in the sign. Other methods of installation include 3M command strips, adhesive velcro, double sided tape, or washers and screws.

Care
The best way to take care of your custom brushed aluminum sign is to post it in a place that will avoid scratches that are either intentional or accidental. Beyond this, regularly clean the sign using a damp non-abrasive cloth. This will ensure that it remains vibrant for years to come. If storage is necessary, store the your sign at room temperature in a dry location. Your brushed metal sign should also be covered with a non-abrasive material to avoid being scratched while stored. If your brushed aluminum sign has the protective laminate, we recommend using a clean cloth and a citrus-based cleaner or cleaning mix of 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% water.

“Our previous sales company had refused to find another merchant to make our nameplates (as they had gone out of business) so I took matters into my own hands and found signs.com. So happy I did because their prices are unbeatable, the sales team is so fast you won't even have time to BLINK, and the product is better than expected! We upgraded from "fake metal" (plastic) nameplates to seriously heavy-duty, REAL METAL nameplates. They match the old ones perfectly! I had trouble during design (had to get the Silver Aluminum to match our Bronze metal-look) so I'd like to thank Graphic Designer Nikki Everett for all their help. They helped ensure the product was to our exact liking. Beautifully designed and we got them within the week. Thank you, Nikki! We WILL be buying our nameplates from signs.com from here on out!”
Love it!!

Q:
Should I be concerned about the sharp edges of the signs?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

The sharp edges on these signs can pose a safety issue if it’s not handled properly. If your sign is going to be placed in a location that prevents this, then you have nothing to worry about other than handling the sign with care during installation. Alternatively, we offer a "Rounded Corners" option in which we'll cut the corners at either a 1/4" or 1" radius to eliminate the dangerous corners and provide a clean look to your sign. This is an affordable option that can be selected on the design tool.

Q:
Can you print my brushed aluminum sign on both sides?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

While our standard aluminum signs can be printed on both sides, the brushed aluminum signs are only single-sided.

Q:
Do you have engraving services for brushed aluminum signs?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

We do not offer any custom engraving of the sign at this time.

Q:
Can my sign be cut to a specific shape?

Q:
Do you do engraving for the brushed aluminum?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
At the time we do not offer any custom engraving of the sign.
Q:
Can my sign be cut to a specific shape?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

There are several different shape options to choose from for your brushed aluminum sign, including Square/Rectangle, Rounded Corners (¼” or 1” radius), Circle/Oval, Custom, and Custom with Border.

The Custom shape option (Contour Cut) allows you to either upload a custom shape to our online design tool or have us create a custom shape for your sign based on your design. The Custom with Border shape option (Halo Cut) is similar to the Custom shape option but will leave a small border around the edge of your design.

In both cases there are exceptions in our ability to cut intricate designs and those that are less than 1” thick in any given location of the sign. Also, be aware that a cut to shape metal sign can be very sharp and should be always handled with care.

Q:
Do you use a vinyl overlay or print directly onto the aluminum?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

We print directly onto the surface of the brushed aluminum to produce visually crisp and clear signs that are instantly stunning. Vinyl overlays can be susceptible to peeling away over time whereas the UV ink we print with is both scratch and fade resistant.

Q:
Can I add a laminate layer to protect the printed portion?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

While we do use fade and abrasion-resistant ink in our printing process, you can choose to have your sign coated with our protective laminate for an additional barrier against everyday wear and tear. This laminate will add a glossy, vibrant finish to your sign and will help protect it against fading, scratches, graffiti, and more.

Q:
What does the default material look like?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Unlike our standard aluminum which is white, our blank brushed aluminum has the metallic brushed look you will see on the actual sign. We then simply print directly onto the surface according to your logo or design. The makeup of the sign as described above is two thin outer sheets of aluminum with a reinforced plastic core.

Q:
Are aluminum signs the same as metal signs?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Yes. Aluminum is a type of durable and rust-resistant metal that is a wonderful option for exterior and interior signage. Whether you want to call it a metal sign, e-panel sign, or aluminum sign we’ll understand what you’re referring to. Just make sure you specify between the standard and brushed aluminum products we offer.
