Vinyl Lettering Pet Grooming

What is Vehicle Lettering?

Vehicle lettering or car/truck lettering includes the lettering, numbering, or graphics individually cut out from a sheet of solid colored, 2-mil vinyl. Each shape is pre-spaced and placed onto masking transfer tape that allows for easy installation on your car, truck, or van in one piece, creating a clean and professional look.

Vehicle lettering works great on cars, trucks, vans, jeeps, buses, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, race cars, off-road vehicles, RVs, tractors, and even lawn mowers. It also works on windows and painted surfaces.

How to Install Vinyl Car and Truck Lettering

All our vehicle lettering comes pre-spaced and pre-masked with transfer tape that makes installation a simple, all-at-once process. Follow the step-by-step instructions below for a fast application:

Thoroughly clean and dry the surface of your car or truck where the decal will be installed.

Apply a horizontal strip of masking tape to the top of the graphic with the top half of the tape on the intended surface, creating a hinge.

Note: Designs with three or more colors will require you to place individually colored layers on your vehicle. Two vinyl dots (one in the upper left corner and one in the bottom right corner of each layer) will be used to help align individual layers.

Hold the bottom edge of the hinged graphic away from the intended surface and remove the back liner, revealing the sticky backing of your lettering. Be careful not to allow the exposed adhesive to touch the surface.

Using a squeegee*, press down on the premask, placing the lettering or graphic onto the intended surface. If creases develop, carefully lift the graphic and place it again. Work from top to bottom and left to right.

*Available for purchase with vehicle lettering.

Remove any air by dragging the squeegee from the center of your graphic outward.

Gently remove the premask, starting at a top corner. If any vinyl begins to come off the surface, use your squeegee to firmly adhere it back to the surface and continue peeling away the premask. This should remove the masking tape hinge as well.

Laying the liner over the graphic with the shiny side facing you, apply hard pressure with the squeegee, removing any remaining air bubbles.

As noted above, for vinyl lettering with three or more colors your order will have one layer per color. Repeat steps 2-7 and use the registration marks in the in the upper left and bottom right corners to ensure proper alignment and installation. The video below shows the installation process for 1 and 2 color vinyl lettering.

Care
Use water and a non-abrasive cloth to clean your vinyl car and truck lettering. This lettering is not ideal for pressurized car washes, as it may result in peeling corners. Do not use strong cleaners or power washers on or around the lettering. This could damage or remove the lettering from your vehicle.

Product Fine, Eventually.

“The vinyl is fine. The ability of signs.com to ship an order correctly is very low. Plan to do a couple rounds of redos and negotiations to get the signs you need. Plan a month ahead of when you’ll actually have to have the product so you’re sure to have acceptable ones in time.”

Some Hiccups, But Pleased Overall

“Not all pieces were fully cut out (e.g. I had to scrape out the center of a lowercase 'a'), and some of the letters stuck to the backing when I peeled it off, so I had to tweezer those off and apply separately. The application instructions were extremely difficult for a sticker of this size, going on a slightly curved window. Still, all in all a good product, especially for the price!”

“Product is great, however based on the website advertising I had expected a much quicker delivery ( It took 1-week). After a discussion with as Rep. I was discounted 20% for the delay. Local pricing for the same signs was $6.00 higher, no shipping, and 3-day pickup. Sorry folks I have to be honest, I'm not quite sure where the ratings come from......”

Q:
What are the proper removal instructions? I bought these for a temporary event and want to make sure there is no damage post event.
Asked 21 days ago by Sarah P.
A:

You can safely remove the vinyl lettering by using a credit card or plastic chisel to get underneath it so you’ve got a corner or edge to hold on to. Slowly and carefully peel back the vinyl with pressure, and if needed, you may use a hairdryer to add a little heat to loosen the adhesive. Remove any residue by using warm soapy water. You may find more instructions here.

Q:
Can you create layered multi-color cut vinyl decals. Would they be registered on one sheet?
Asked 9 months ago by Matthew W.
A:

At the moment, we are able to do 2 colors on one sheet; anything more than that will come with 1 color per sheet and customers will have to put them together.

Q:
When I upload an image, the image is black when added to the project. It shows the image successfully uploaded. How do I fix this?
Asked 9 months ago by Misty H.
A:

When you upload an artwork for vinyl lettering, black is the initial color. You have the option to change the color when uploaded. Please see link below. https://editor.signs.com/personalization/personalize?token=7a80bc86aba743c584e9fe35adf14222&action=design&page_id=16&page_revision_id=30884

Q:
Can I use a soap solution in a spray bottle and spray the surface before applying the lettering and squeegee the the water from behind the lettering? For easier installation.
Asked a year ago by Jeff
A:

Yes. This can be done. Putting spraying soap and water before installing it would make a big difference in installing it.

Q:
What is cut vinyl or vinyl lettering?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Vinyl lettering is made up of individual letters, numbers, or graphics that are cut to the exact shape and then pre-spaced and placed onto transfer masking tape. This structure allows for a seamless application onto the desired surface.

Q:
Will there be a background or sticker between letters?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

No, the letters are individually cut but not printed separately. The application tape layer holds the letters in place upon application.

Q:
Will all my individual letters or design elements be placed on the same sheet of transfer tape?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

In most cases, the individual letters contained within your vehicle lettering will be appropriately spaced and placed on a single sheet of transfer tape for quick and simple installation.

However, if your vehicle lettering exceeds 48" (for colors black and white) or 24" (for all other colors) in both width and height, your lettering will be split and placed onto two sheets of transfer tape.

You will also receive your vehicle lettering in multiple sheets if you are using three or more different colors. In this case, each separate color will be grouped together on its own sheet.

Q:
Is there any difference between vehicle, car, and truck lettering?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Vehicle lettering, car lettering, and truck lettering are all the same products. The exact same material and installation process is used whether you are using the lettering on your car, truck, van, or any other type of vehicle.

Q:
Is car and truck lettering printed or cut?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Car and truck lettering is cut to shape from a sheet of solid-colored vinyl, which gives the lettering no background. Therefore, there is a limited number of colors to choose from with vinyl lettering.

After cutting out the general shapes of the letters or object, the production team employs manual weeding also known as picking to cut out any internal spaces. This is what allows vehicle lettering to be cut to the exact shape. No printing is used when producing car and truck lettering.
