What Are Carpet Stickers?

Custom carpet stickers are vinyl graphics that adhere to low pile carpet and are commonly used for advertising, branding, or trade show and event purposes. At 9.4 mil (.009") they are incredibly thin yet perfect for temporary use. Due to their protective overlaminate they are certified slip resistant and can handle foot traffic for up to six months of regular use.

Carpet stickers are also commonly referred to as carpet decals or carpet graphics. Carpet stickers are easily applied and removed from low pile carpets or rugs without leaving behind any residual adhesive.

Compatible Surfaces

Carpet stickers are the perfect graphic solution for carpet applications. However, they are not compatible with all types of carpet. When purchasing a carpet sticker the intended installation surface must be taken into account. Carpet stickers must only be applied to carpet with a short nap and a tight weave. Additionally, carpet graphics will only adhere to carpets with minimal texture. This is most often true of commercial carpets rather than residential carpets. Some other common surfaces for carpet stickers are low pile rugs and vehicle carpets or floor mats. With all carpets and rugs the same principles apply: the installation surface must be short, tightly woven, and minimal in texture. Carpet stickers are not meant for non-porous or smooth surfaces. Please see our floor decals if you are looking for a decal not intended for carpet. Carpet decals will not work on surfaces such as hardwood, laminate, tile, unsealed concrete, or surfaces, including carpets, that are dirty, stained (oil, chemicals, etc), or wet.

Lifespan

Carpet stickers are meant to be a temporary and short term floor graphic. Assuming the graphic is installed properly on a compatible carpet surface it should last 3-6 months.

Factors for Carpet Stickers Lifespan:

  • Compatible Installation Surface
  • Correct Installation
  • Normal Amount of Foot Traffic
  • Low Exposure to UV light
  • Temperature Range (40-180 degrees)

Contact with water should be avoided. Water will permanently damage the carpet sticker adhesive.

Installation
When installing your custom carpet sticker be sure to confirm that your installation surface (i.e. carpet or rug) is compatible with the carpet sticker.

The carpet surface must be clean and free from dirt, dust, oils, etc. in order for the sticker to adhere properly. To install the sticker, begin by peeling the protective backing from the adhesive or non-printed side of the sticker. Gently place one end of the graphic to the floor and slowly squeegee* the graphic to the carpet. Once the graphic has been placed, gently press and squeegee the sticker to the carpet one final time.

*Squeegees can be added to your order for a small charge during the design process.

Removal

When you are done using your carpet sticker you should remove it from the carpet within six months of installation. Begin by pulling the graphic up from the carpet at one edge and slowly peel the graphic away from the carpet. removing the sticker within six months will ensure that your carpet will not be damaged due to the adhesive. Removing your graphic should not leave any adhesive residue on your carpet so long as you remove it within six months of installation. Carpet stickers are not reusable and once they have been installed they cannot be re-positioned or reused. Once they have been removed they should be disposed of.

Q:
What is the default material color for carpet stickers?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Our carpet stickers are made from a matte white vinyl base. The base is covered with a clear glossy overlaminate. Our carpet stickers are unable to be transparent. However, you may select a number of different colors for the background or your sticker in our design tool or upload your custom artwork.
Q:
Can carpet stickers be used outdoors? Are they weather resistant?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Carpet stickers are intended for interior use only and shouldn’t be placed on carpet outdoors. The adhesive on our carpet stickers is water based and should not come in contact with water or other liquids as this will permanently damage the sticker. Exposure to UV rays should also be avoided as this will cause the adhesive to deteriorate over time.

Q:
What is the lifespan of the stickers?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Assuming that your carpet sticker has been properly installed on a compatible surface and a normal amount of foot traffic you should expect the sticker to last 3-6 months. Carpet stickers are intended as a temporary carpet signage solution.
Q:
Will the ink on my carpet sticker fade?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Our carpet stickers are digitally printed with a UV ink and are designed to be fade resistant. The laminate on the sticker also helps to protect your printed design during use. To prevent fading be sure to place your sticker indoors and out of direct sunlight and exposure to UV rays. Extended exposure to UV rays and sunlight may cause fading and will cause the adhesive to break down.
Q:
Are they slip resistant? Will people slip and fall if they step on my carpet sticker?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Our carpet stickers are UL 410 certified slip resistant. Normal foot traffic over your carpet sticker is perfectly safe and shouldn’t cause anyone to slip. Be sure that water or liquid doesn’t come in contact with your sticker as this will damage the sticker’s adhesive and may also cause the laminate to become slippery.

Q:
Will the carpet sticker ruin the carpet or rug I place it on?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Our carpet stickers are intended to be in use for 3-6 months with proper installation, compatible surfaces, and normal foot traffic. Under 6 months from the date of installation you can expect to easily remove your carpet sticker from the installation surface without any fear of it damaging the surface. After 6 months of use we cannot guarantee that your carpet sticker will not damage or leave adhesive residue on the application surface.
Q:
What types of carpet can stickers be installed on? Can they be installed on other carpeted surfaces?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Our carpet stickers are meant to be installed on indoor surfaces only and should never be installed outdoors or where they may be exposed to weather. You should also install them away from direct or continued exposure to sunlight or UV rays as this may damage the adhesive or cause your design to fade. Carpet stickers should only be applied on carpet or rug surfaces. Carpet surfaces must be low pile, short nap, and have a tight weave. This is most common with commercial carpeting found in businesses and conference settings. Long, shaggy, or loose carpet, such as what is most commonly seen in residential settings, is not compatible with our carpet stickers. Carpet Stickers can be used in many settings including commercial or office carpet, boat carpets during boat shows (when dry as contact with water will damage the stickers), and vehicle carpet or carpeted floor mats. The carpet or rug should also be attached to the subfloor if the carpet sticker is intended to withstand normal foot traffic. Excessive foot traffic can cause the lifespan of the sticker to be shortened from the estimated 3-6 months of intended use.
Q:
Can carpet stickers be driven on? Can I place anything on top of them?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Carpet stickers are not to be driven on and contact with vehicle traffic of any kind may permanently damage your sticker. Placing sharp or heavy objects on top of your stickers should be avoided as well. Contact with sharp or heavy objects will cause damage to your carpet sticker. This can include high heel shoes which will puncture the sticker.
Q:
What are the typical uses of carpet stickers?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Carpet stickers are typically used for advertising and branding purposes at trade shows, events and conferences. Other common uses include directional purposes in a variety of settings and point of purchase or in-store advertising or promotions in retail settings. They are most often used in commercial settings on low pile carpet such as department stores or small retail shops.
Q:
How do I install my carpet graphic?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Installation of your carpet stickers first requires a clean and dry compatible surface. Compatible surfaces included carpets that are low pile, have a short nap, tight weave and minimal texture. Once you’ve cleaned the surface and let it air dry you are ready to install the sticker. For larger graphics we recommend using two people to install the carpet graphic. This will help prevent the graphic from sticking to itself during installation.
To install the sticker simply remove the backing protecting the adhesive and apply the graphic to the carpet. It is recommended that you slowly apply the graphic with a squeegee from one edge of the sticker to the other. Apply the sticker slowly and ensure that no large air bubbles or pockets remain. We recommend that if a large air bubble or pocket is discovered after applying you try to smooth it out with a squeegee rather than removing the entire graphic to smooth it out as this may affect the ability of the adhesive to strongly stick to the carpet again. Once the sticker is in place use the squeegee to go over it one final time to ensure that there is a firm hold.
