What are Frosted Acrylic Signs?

Frosted acrylic signs are beautifully crafted to diffuse light and elegantly present a brand or message. Acrylic is a glass substitute that is more durable than glass while maintaining all the appearance of professional signage. Frosted acrylic provides a translucent background to your design.

Similar to clear acrylic signs, frosted acrylic signs are often used as decorative signage solutions to augment an office space or proudly display a brand or logo. Although recommended for indoor signage uses, frosted acrylic can be used indoors or outdoors. Fully customize any design by printing on frosted acrylic in full color.

Standoffs and Drilled Holes

Frosted acrylic signs are most frequently mounted on a wall using standoffs. Drilled holes and standoffs are optional but highly recommended because they provide the perfect complement to your professional sign. To make it easier to hang your sign, we offer drilled holes in 8 different configurations:

You can choose between ⅜" drilled holes or ¼" drilled holes. If you are planning on mounting your frosted acrylic sign with standoffs, choose ?" drilled holes.

Standoffs are the perfect option for drilled holes. Our half-inch-diameter standoffs are made from anodized brushed aluminum and are aesthetically appealing for any frosted acrylic design.

Frosted vs Clear Acrylic

Frosted acrylic has some unique qualities that make it a wonderful signage option. Similar to a window that frosts over during cold weather, frosted acrylic signs are translucent, or semi-opaque. This effect looks fantastic when mounted on a wall of any color or texture. Frosted acrylic can also be used as a divider or barrier to provide some privacy between two spaces.

Our clear acrylic signs on the other hand simulate clear glass with perfect transparency. Both clear and frosted acrylic signs are lightweight and durable and provide an elegant sign for any office space or setting. Click below to get started with clear or frosted acrylic.

Removing the Protective Film

Removing the Protective Film

Because of the nature of acrylic, there is a tendency for the surface of your sign to scratch. In order to protect your sign during shipping, we add a protective film to the back, glossy side of your frosted acrylic sign before packaging and shipping it directly to your door.

The film is not a permanent part of your frosted acrylic sign and can be easily removed. Simply peel the brown film away from the sign starting in one corner and begin slowly working the film out and away from the acrylic surface.

Caring for Frosted Acrylic Signs

Acrylic is a beautiful signage material that, when cared for properly, can last for years. However, because it's similar to glass, acrylic can scratch and even chip or shatter if handled poorly. You can prevent damage to your frosted acrylic sign by properly installing, maintaining, and caring for the sign. No matter if your sign is used outside or inside, occasional cleaning will be required. We recommend using a damp non-abrasive cloth (microfiber works well) to wipe the surface. Do not use ammonia based cleaner (such as Windex) on the acrylic because it may result in a clouded surface. Use a dry non-abrasive cloth to dry the sign.

If you need to store your frosted acrylic sign, we recommend first covering the sign with a soft fabric or packing wrap to prevent scratching the sign. Your frosted acrylic sign will last longest when installed in locations that avoid direct sunlight.

Q:
Other than standoffs how can I mount an acrylic sign? And if I drill Holes in My sign, what type of bit should I use?
Asked 3 months ago by Bryan R.
A:

Acrylic signs can also be hung using the drilled holes and a variety of accessories, including rope, bungee cord, zip ties, etc. If you’re using your acrylic sign in a professional office, we recommend that you use standoffs to mount them so you can achieve a sophisticated look. Also, you may drill your own holes into your sign if you wish, and you may use any standard drill with the proper bit. Please note that if you drill holes into the sign by yourself, we’ll be unable to replace, repair, or refund the cost of the sign lest any damages occur.

How do I mount a 6' wide by 2' long banner at a trade show with no walls behind me?
Asked 7 months ago by Jeffrey M.
A:

We do have different accessories that you can use to mount your banner. The best one we could suggest is a banner frame, but if there are trees or poles around, you can also try to use nylon ropes or bungees and wrap it around. You may click the link below for more options:

Q:
What is Frosted Acrylic?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Frosted acrylic is a hard plastic that has a frosted finish. The graphic or design for all frosted acrylic signs are printed directly onto the frosted acrylic substrate. Like clear acrylic or polyacrylate (a type of plastic), frosted acrylic is durable and acts as a good substitute for glass signage. Although durable, frosted acrylic signs are not scratch proof nor shatter proof. Frosted acrylic signs are generally used indoors but can be used outdoors as well. Frosted acrylic signs are made using a similar material to brand names such as Plexiglas, Perspex, and Lucite.
Q:
Why choose frosted over clear acrylic?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Frosted acrylic provides an elegant look to any sign. The translucent rather than transparent material of frosted acrylic can help your design 'pop' and draw more attention when placed on a solid-color wall. Frosted acrylic might also be a good option for you if you have some sort of light source behind your display. When light penetrates the frosted acrylic, the translucent material distributes the light making a striking look and bringing your design to life. Both frosted and clear acrylic signs make beautiful displays for branding, directional, and office signage.

Q:
Why does shipping cost so much if you offer free shipping?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Shipping on orders over $99 is free. However, this excludes rigid signs over 36" which require special packaging or any order which requires freight shipping. Unfortunately, the 36" threshold is a shipping industry rule of thumb and it is beyond our control in our ability to ship these large signs in any other way.
