How to Install Your Custom Car Magnet

Step 1, showing a car magnet flat on the floor

Place your magnet on a flat magnetic surface for 24 hours to restore magnetic memory.

Before installing your magnet, be sure to put it on a flat magnetic surface such as a refrigerator for 24 hours. We ship all our magnets rolled up to prevent damage during shipment. Placing them on a magnetic surface will help flatten the magnet for installation while resetting the magnetic memory. Failing to place your magnet on such a surface will result in poor adherence to the vehicle surface during installation and subsequent use.

Step 2 showing someone wiping the side door of a car with a rag

Clean the vehicle surface and magnet before installing it.

We recommend cleaning the exterior of your vehicle and wiping down the back of your magnet with a damp cloth (a mild detergent and water solution will also work) prior to installing on the vehicle's surface. By cleaning both the vehicle and magnet and allowing them to air dry you'll prevent any dirt or tiny rocks from scratching the vehicle's paint and create a solid connection between the magnet and vehicle surface.

Step 3 showing the magnet being applied to the car

Place the magnet on a flat magnetic vehicle surface (no curves, bumps, and no molding).

Please note that the installation surface must be completely flat without any bumps, curves, or molding. The surface must also be a magnet-compatible metal, otherwise the magnet will not work. Make sure the magnet completely adheres to the surface without air pockets.

Step 4 showing someone cleaning the magnet while on a flat surface

Avoid damage to your magnet or vehicle by removing and cleaning both surfaces frequently.

Remove your magnet often and regularly to quickly clean the application surface as well as the back of the magnet. Doing so will increase its longevity and hold.

Step 5 showing someone removing the magnet from the side of the vehicle

Remove magnets during car washes or when not in use.

Remove your magnet before entering a mechanical car wash or using a power washer as both can permanently damage your custom car magnet. We also recommend storing the magnet if you won’t be using it for an extended period. Store it flat and out of direct sunlight.

Care

Care

After removing your vehicle's magnet we recommend cleaning it before storing it flat in a container, in a cool, dry place or with a piece of non-abrasive fabric on each side. Storing it in any of these ways will prevent any damage to you magnet including the printed side, keeping it in excellent condition for future use.

Q:
What material is the car magnet made of?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Our car magnets are made of a 30 pt. magnetic stock material. These are strong and durable and can stick to any metallic surface.

Q:
Does your magnet come with a laminate covering?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

No, our magnets aren’t covered with a laminate film or cover. Instead, we print with UV ink. If you’d still like a laminate covering contact us for a custom quote.

Q:
Do you offer reflective magnets?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

We currently do not offer reflective magnets.

Q:
Do your magnets have a warranty?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

While our magnets don't have an official warranty per se, all our products are backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee. Further, the lifespan of your magnet is 3-5 years with proper care and maintenance.

Q:
Will my magnet fade over time? What about in poor weather or climates?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Due to the fade- and abrasion-resistant UV ink used in our printing process your magnet and its design should remain vibrant for the entirety of the product lifespan assuming it is cared for properly. This is true even when magnets are constantly exposed to the elements.

Q:
What are the maximum dimensions you can make for a magnet?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

While most car magnets (depending on model and make) are somewhere between 10” x12” (width) and 20” x 24” (length) for cars and 18” x 24” and up for larger delivery and work vans, we have the capability to make magnets up to 38” x 240”.

Q:
Are magnets bad for my car? Do they damage the surface or paint on my car, truck, or van?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Our custom car magnets will not do any damage to your car or truck. However, care should be taken to ensure that no dirt or dust is between the magnet and your car. Otherwise, the granules of sand can eventually damage your paint over time.

To prevent this, always clean your vehicle and the back of the magnet prior to placement. It is also important to note that over long periods of time, the paint of your vehicle may fade from exposure to the environment except where the magnets are protecting it.

Q:
Can I put a magnet on a new paint job? Will it ruin my car exterior?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Yes, you can place a magnet on a new paint job. Make sure to wait a few weeks for the paint to fully cure so that it won’t cause any damage to your car’s exterior.

Q:
Will my magnet work on an aluminum surface?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

No. Aluminum is not magnetic and therefore if your car door, bumper, or other parts of your car are made from aluminum the magnet will not adhere to the surface. Please confirm the intended surface is magnetic (known as a "ferrous metal") before purchasing your custom magnet.

Q:
What temperature range do your magnets work in?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

It is also worth noting that magnets are intended for use on surfaces that are in temperatures between -15°F and 160°F. Temperatures that are too cold can cause the magnet to become brittle and not adhere properly. Surface temperatures that exceed 160°F can result in the magnet baking onto the surface of the vehicle which can result in paint damage.
