What Are Opaque Window Clings?

Window clings (sometimes known as static clings or static window clings) are similar to decals as they are printed onto a thin white vinyl material that can be easily applied to a smooth surface. Unlike decals, however, window clings stick to glass and other smooth surfaces without any adhesive. No sticky adhesive means no mess plus the benefit of being able to reuse and reposition your cling as you please. Opaque window clings are the perfect choice for temporary signage.

Opaque window clings are printed in full color with high resolution digital UV Ink. Having a brilliant print means you can proudly display a fantastic design in minutes with an opaque window cling. Although these window clings are not intended for vehicle use or other exterior applications, they provide excellent window signage for any occasion.

Removable and Repositionable

With clings, you’re in full control whenever you want to move or take down your design. Window clings can be placed on a window, removed when needed, then reused again. In comparison to decals, window clings have the added benefit of not leaving any adhesive residue when taken down.

Repositioning your cling is simple. Just peel it away from the surface and put it back wherever you want. A little water with a couple drops of dish soap works wonders to get your cling adjusted on the window just right. Use a squeegee to remove air pockets and excess water then let it dry. See the installation instructions for more details.

When you are done displaying your cling, you can store it for later use by putting it back on the white backing that came with your cling. You can also use wax paper if you no longer have the backing. Store your cling flat, in a cool, dry place.

Advanced Printing

Opaque window clings are printed in full color with UV ink using a digital printing process. This means that no matter how simple or detailed your design, you can expect a clear image and text on your cling.

Whether your design is one color or multicolor, your cost is the same. If you don’t have a design ready but have an idea of what you’d like we can help. Take advantage of our free design services and we’ll help you get the perfect window cling display.

When your design uses a color or image background, opaque window clings are perfect. Keep in mind that you can also get a clear window cling if you are looking for something more transparent.

How to Install Opaque Window Clings

Applying your window cling can be done in a few simple steps. All you need is the window cling, a clean surface, a soap and water mixture in a spray bottle, and a squeegee (available for purchase with a window cling).

1.
Step 1 for Installing Opaque Window Clings

Thoroughly clean the surface of the glass or non-porous surface you’re applying the window cling to. Use water or any other household window cleaner.

2.
Step 2 for Installing Opaque Window Clings

Once the surface is clean, gently peel the white backing away from the cling.

3.
Step 3 for Installing Opaque Window Clings

Use a light soap and water mixture to spray the window and the non-printed side of your cling (the front for inside glass window clings or the rear for outside glass, or standard surface, window clings). While a light wet application is recommended, your cling can be applied without using the soapy water solution.

4.
Step 4 for Installing Opaque Window Clings

Apply the cling to the surface by starting at the top, applying pressure as you work your way to the bottom.

5.
Step 5 for Installing Opaque Window Clings

Use a squeegee* to remove excess water and bubbles.

*Available for purchase with opaque window clings and other decal products.

6.
Step 6 for Installing Opaque Window Clings

Once dry, your window cling will adhere to the window while still being removable and repositionable!

Care

Custom opaque window clings can be easily cleaned using a damp cloth or paper towel. Gently wipe dirt or residue from the surface of the cling and surrounding window. When needing to store the window cling, simply remove it from the window, wipe it down to remove any surface dirt, then re-apply the protective backing on the ‘adhesive’ side. If you don’t have the protective backing, wax paper can be used as a protective backing.

Q:
Can a cling also suction to a painted wall?
Asked 3 days ago by Jodie
A:

Our window clings can be used on a variety of smooth polished surfaces, including glass, plastic, chrome, and high-gloss smooth, painted surfaces.

Q:
Hello... does the light shine through the design so in essence it lights up from the light behind it?
Asked a month ago by John
A:

Opaque window clings are great for blocking the view inside the window or outside of the window. If you are looking for a material that can adhere to a backlight for spot light, you may check the Backlit Decals, as they are designed specifically to shine. The semi-translucent vinyl defuses light evenly, making for brilliant advertising and business displays.

Q:
Will your clings melt on glass that is heated to a temperature of 150 degrees? I'm considering these clings for a customer's hot case, where the cling will be applied to the outside of the hot case's glass window.
Asked 4 months ago by Jeremy S.
A:

It's at the top end of the heat range, so it won't melt under 150 degrees, but it may affect the lifespan of the product.

Q:
Can I get a cling printed on both sides, so I can see my design on both sides of the window at the same time?
Asked 4 months ago by Robin M.
A:

This request may be something we may have to check with our product consultants. Kindly fill out the link below to find out:

Q:
Are there installation instructions for opaque window cling? If so, How do I get them? Many thanks.
Asked 5 months ago by Keith
A:

Absolutely! We do have installation instructions on the Opaque Window Clings page. Just click the link below and scroll down towards the middle of the page for instructions and pictures:

Q:
is opaque window cling look more frosted or white?
Asked 6 months ago by james s.
A:

This is not frosted. Opaque represents the white color material being used.

Q:
Would a window cling work for posting a 8 1/2" x 11" sign? I would then put a 12"x12" window cling over the sign to hold it in place. I'm trying to find a sign holder without suction cups for glass adhesion.
Asked 7 months ago by Beth
A:

8.5x11 window cling would work as a sign. Just make sure to make the letters big for readability.

Q:
If I have 6 different designs, do you have any additional art charges? I would either need 1 each of 6 or 2 each of 6.
Asked 7 months ago by Chris D.
A:

We do not charge for the art you submit. We just charge for the printing and not the basing on the files submitted.

Q:
What material are your clings made out of?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Our custom opaque window clings are made from 0.17” white vinyl. The material itself is a non-adhesive static cling signage option. This means it contains no adhesive glues which allows for easy installation, removal, and reuse. Custom window clings adhere to the surface of the window due to the vinyl working like mini-suction cup.

Opaque window clings are not transparent. Thus, by default, the background of your sign will be white. If you want a transparent background you should check out our clear window clings.

Q:
What is the difference between opaque window clings and opaque window decals?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:

Opaque window clings are different from opaque window decals in the way that they stick to smooth surfaces. A window cling sometimes known as a static cling adheres to smooth surfaces similar to a suction cup. A decal, on the other hand, has a sticky adhesive which creates a bond between the vinyl and the attaching surface. Clings are perfect for temporary solutions such as advertisements and promotions or seasonal designs. Decals are generally designed for semi-permanent or long-term window signage solutions.

The final appearance of opaque window clings and opaque window decals are very similar. Both window display options use beautiful, full-color printing technology and show excellent design quality.
