What Are Rear Window Graphics?

What Are Rear Window Graphics?

Rear window graphics (also known as perforated car window decals) are specialized decals designed for your vehicle’s rear and side windows. These decals are made using perforated vinyl, a type of vinyl made with tiny holes called micropunctures which makes 50% of the material. The perforation allows the design on the decal to be visible from the outside and see-through from the inside.

Using rear window graphics is a great way to advertise your business or show off a custom design while maintaining clear visibility when looking out your vehicle’s windows. Custom rear window graphics are commonly used to cover the entire rear or side windows on cars, trucks, jeeps, vans, commercial vehicles, semi-trucks, and any other type of vehicle with windows.

One-Way Vision

Using rear window graphics and signs is one of the most effective and safe ways to advertise your products, services, or business on your vehicle. When using other decals, they tend to obstruct vision and can even lead to unsafe driving. Rear window graphics allow you to display large messages and still maintain full visibility of your surroundings.

Selecting the Best Size and Design for Your Perforated Car Decal

1. When measuring the size of your car or truck window, be sure to measure the largest width and height to ensure that your sign will cover all areas of the window.
2. Order your graphic 2” wider and higher than the length of your window. This allows room for trimming and will ensure that you order a size large enough to cover the entire window. For example, if your window is 50” x 20” order a decal that is 52” x 22”.
3. When designing your custom rear window graphic, place your design/image/graphic in the center of the decal to make sure it will not be affected by trimming.
4. In order to maximize the visibility of your decal, be sure to use as much contrast as possible between the background color and your design. For example, if you use a light background with a light design or lettering it may be difficult for others to see. Or if your decal is very dark and is placed on any sort of tinted window it may appear washed out. Thus, design and intended surfaces should be considered when creating your graphic.

Simple Installation with No Professional Help Required

Installing your rear window graphic is a simple and straightforward process that does not require any professional help. A set of instructions will be included with your order to assist you. You may also view the installation instructions below or download the installation instructions PDF just below the instructions.

Please Note: This is not a decal meant for wet install, so please do not use any water on the decal or window when installing.

Clean your car window, removing all dirt and grime from the surface. Allow the window to fully air dry before proceeding.

Lay out your decal on your vehicle’s window with the backing still on and make sure it is aligned properly and that you’ve ordered the correct size.

Pull the decal away from the window and remove the backing, exposing the black adhesive side of the decal. If the backing appears to be tearing when removing it, this may be because you are not removing all layers of the backing. When removing the backing, you should be able to see the back of the graphic, which is black.

Place the graphic back onto your vehicle’s window, making sure it is aligned with the markings made previously. Begin to apply to the window, using a squeegee* or flat edge. Start from the center of the graphic and work your way towards the outer corners.

*Available for purchase with your rear window decal

Once you have applied the entire decal to your window, remove the excess material around the edges using a razor blade. Be sure to use caution when doing this to avoid damaging your vehicle’s window or paint.

Care

Care

Perforated car decals are safe for manual car washes and will stand up to most exterior elements. Avoid automated/automatic car washes and power washers when washing your car. To extend the life of your decals, avoid parking in direct sunlight for extremely long periods of time. Remove dirt and other buildup regularly with a damp, non-abrasive cloth to keep adhesive strong.

Perforated vinyl for my back windshield
Verified buyer
December 20, 2024 by Lisa Kisling ( TN )
“The contact person they assigned me, Mary, was a great help. I had her help on the design. After all the help, it was my inexperience that I failed to notice my back glass was curved so it wasnt a success. I am now looking into ordering a clear backed decal instead of a whole piece to cover the glass. The product was a great price and good product.”
All as promised.

Q:
Can I use a decal over back window with small slider window in the center? If so how do J account for that when ordering? Thank you!
Asked 18 days ago by Katie S.
A:

Yes, it's possible, but the slider window placement would be a bit complicated. There would be a hole in the middle and it would be a separate piece for the slider window.

Q:
Will rear defrost ruin the decal on the back window?
Asked a month ago by Travis
A:

Our perforated vehicle decals are made to last most of the weather conditions. To have them last long, we suggest removing the buildups, such as ice, as soon as possible using a damp, non-abrasive cloth or gently scraping it off to keep adhesive strong.

Q:
Are the perforated signs legal in the state of Hawaii? I can't tell if these would block the driver's view and be illegal under this law: "It is against the law for motorists to place any sign, poster, or nontransparent material on the front windshield"
Asked a month ago by Dave
A:

These decals are made from perforated vinyl, a type of vinyl with tiny holes known as micropunctures that account for 50% of the total material. The perforation allows the decal's design to be visible from the outside while remaining see-through from inside. However, we still recommend that you consult with the local government about the guidelines for these types of signs.

Q:
I want to design my own image. I have a graphic designing program and want to know what quality it needs to be so it doesn't show up pixeled or blurry
Asked 2 months ago by Llarissa W.
A:

To ensure that the artwork we are creating of the order will not be blurry the minimum resolution should be at least 300 dpi. I have listed below all the file requirements to make sure you can send us a print-ready file.

Accepted File Formats
PDF is the preferred file format. We will also accept files formatted as AI, DOC, DOCX, EPS, JPG, JPEG, PNG, PSD, PUB, TIF, TIFF, PPT, PPTX, TXT, CSV, BMP, GIF, SVG, XLSX, XLS and ZIP.
Artwork Requirements
For optimal results, we recommend creating artwork in CMYK color mode, at 300 dpi resolution, and the file needs to match the order size including a .125" bleed on each side.

Q:
Are you allowed to do trademarked images? I am interested in a TCU Horned Frog image that I will submit and buy if that is allowed. Also, I just want the portion for the sliding back window of a Ford F150, not the entire back window. Thanks, George
Asked 4 months ago by George G.
A:

As long as there is no watermark on the artwork, we should be able to print it. As for the specific size of the product to fit your vehicle's window, we might need to get it checked by our product consultant's team. Kindly fill out the link below:

Q:
Need the Dimensions for 2024 acadia rear window for perf graphic, so i can upload to you
Asked 5 months ago by Julieherring14@yahoo.com
A:

To measure the rear window of a 2024 GMC Acadia for perforated graphics, you will need to gather the exact dimensions. Unfortunately, specific rear window measurements for this model are not readily available online. However, you can easily measure it yourself by following these steps:

  1. Gather Materials: You'll need a flexible measuring tape, a piece of paper, and a pen or pencil.

  2. Measure Width: Open the rear hatch and measure the width of the window at its widest point, typically from one side to the other at the base of the window.

  3. Measure Height: Measure the height from the top edge of the window to the bottom edge. You might need to take this measurement in a couple of places if the window has a curve or tapers.

  4. Record Measurements: Write down these measurements on your piece of paper. It's a good idea to measure twice to ensure accuracy.

  5. Template (Optional): For more complex window shapes, you might want to create a template. You can do this by taping a piece of paper or butcher paper over the window and tracing the outline, then measuring this template.

By following these steps, you can obtain accurate dimensions for the perforated graphics.

Q:
Have a Tesla Model X 2023. Can I put one on the back window which is curved. Also because of the hatch slope will it make it hard to see out the back?
Asked 5 months ago by Kalani
A:

Vehicle decals printed with UV-resistant ink on micro-perforated vinyl. It allows you to cover entire windows and still see outside them from inside your vehicle.

Q:
Can you match the paint color of the vehicle to make the side windows look like part if the body? If so, do I send a sample of the color as it is a custom color?
Asked 7 months ago by Jim S.
A:

I'm afraid we are unable to guarantee colors, but we may try to check with our product consultants' team if this is something we can try to customize. Kindly fill out the form below to get started:

Q:
Will this window decal for the back of my car tear if I turn on my back windshield wiper?
Asked 8 months ago by Kristie
A:

The window decal would work fine if you stick in your back windshield, even if you turn on your wipers. Just make sure it's installed properly.
