Q:
What type of wood do you use for your wooden prints? Do you offer additional wood options?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Our wooden prints are crafted from a combination of 60% Polish Birch and 40% Alder. In addition to the nine layers that make up the print there is a maple face that allows your image or photo to appear in clear detail while allowing the unique grain of the maple faced wood to show through. We do not currently print on any other types of wood.
Q:
If your prints are made from maple why do the sides show layers?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
Our wooden prints are in fact made up of a number of layers of Polish Birch and Alder to give the edges of your finished piece some additional interest. The face of the wood is a maple surface that allows for beautiful grains and printing. Each gorgeous print will have a unique grain, a smooth finish and extremely detailed printing. We’re 100% confident that you will not be disappointed in the beauty of your wood photo print.
Q:
Are wooden photo prints the same as your wooden signs?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
While both are made from wood, our wooden photo prints are not the same as our wooden signs. Custom wooden prints are made from a combination of Polish Birch and Alder with a maple face to form a ½” thick piece of wood. They are specifically designed for indoor decor purposes and not outdoor use. These custom wood prints come in a wide variety of square and rectangular shapes but cannot be cut to shape. In most cases the unique grain of the wood will be visible on your wooden print.Alternatively, wooden signs are constructed from a ½” high-density fiberboard with a bonded polymer overlay. Wooden signs can be cut to relatively any shape and are offered with drilled holes for hanging. These wooden signs are primarily used for outdoor use such as construction sites, farms, outdoor business signs and more. The grain of the wood is not visible due to the polymer overlay.
Q:
Are wooden prints treated with anything before an image is printed?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
The wood is not treated prior to printing. It is sanded to provide a smooth finish for printing on.
Q:
How is my picture or photo printed on wooden prints?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
A dye sublimation process is used to infuse ink directly into the wood grain, resulting in a vibrant, permanent image while still allowing for the unique grain to appear through much of the printed areas
Q:
Do wooden prints have a lacquered or laminate finish? Glossy or matte?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
After your image is printed onto the wood, a clear, protective laminate is adhered to the surface to preserve the quality of your photo. This laminate is so incredibly thin that it is not noticeable without an intentional effort to examine it. It will definitely not be obvious or visible to the naked eye.Apart from the laminate, there is no lacquered finish. The appearance of your print will definitely have a more matte appearance than a glossy one.
Q:
Are the edges of the wooden print rough or are they sanded / laminated?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
The edges of your wood picture are sanded to a smooth finish. The finish of the edges will show the cross sections of the layers of the wood adding additional interest and beauty to the finished product.
Q:
Does the wood grain show through both dark and light colors?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
The grain of the wood will be more visible through lighter colors than darker colors. Take this into consideration when designing your wooden picture. If your print has areas of dark colors that you wish to have the grain appear, we suggest lightening or increasing the opacity of those areas before uploading the image to our design tool. If you need help adjusting the color or opacity of the photo, we have free design services to assist you.
Q:
Will the wood grain affect the quality of my printed photo or image?
Asked 2 years ago by Signs
A:
The wood grain will not affect the quality of your printed photo or image. In fact, the grain adds to the image by making each wooden print unique.
